Obama people sell Inauguration

Obama’s inauguration panel have sold exclusive content to three different television networks for over $5 million.
A lot of people are questioning if that is the right thing to do. Seeing as how this is an historic event for everyone in America, why can’t all the networks have fair broadcasting rights and footage.
In this economy, I understand making the most out of every situation, but some things- like the inauguration- shouldn’t be for sale, in my opinion. Especially when they’re using the Lincoln Memorial to broadcast from (which belongs to everyone, not just politicians).
The inauguration committee is accepting individual donations up to $50,000 and have already raised about $35 million.
At this point they’re not saying where all that money will go… Hopefully the money will be going back to help our economy and the people of America who really need it…. And not paying for Beyonce’s performance tonight.

you said some profound things in there, good call, still glad i had hbo though.
I get all the “stimulus” I need from watching Olivia!
If you have DirecTV channel 101, they showed the “We are One” concert in it’s entirety for those who don’t have HBO. They might decide to reair it this week or something if you get lucky.
The $35 million fundraised by the Campaign is to offset the cost of the $160 million price of the Inauguration.
Hey, I’m waiting for my stimulus package, Democrats stop biotching about the tax cuts in the stimulus plan, and let’s get this moving.
Hmm. Interesting situation. If that money isn’t used for something helpful, I’m sure we’ll be hearing about it. I just hope they don’t try to blame Obama or his administration for it, unless of course, one or the other intentionally did that.
let me tell you that if you aren’t from Washington, D.C. you won’t be screwed with tax dollars because the $160 million dollars will be paid with tax dollars from D.C., so if you live in D.C., please, continue to biotch.
Olivia, with all due respect, I don’t think you realize the scope or money involved with this inauguration. For example, you cite the Lincoln Memorial, referencing what I think is the “We Are One” concert. There is no way the PIC could have afforded to give access to that concert to all major networks, hence it sold it to HBO. The amount of production value was astounding– securing celebrities to read historical passages, coordinating with singers and performers to perform specially aimed pieces in the spirit of the inauguration. Not to mention security. With the hundreds of thousands of people that line the reflecting pool up from the Lincoln Memorial all the way back to the WW2 memorial, much security detail had to be planned and coordinated. With the historical amount this inauguration is going to end up costing, there is no doubt in my mind that all that $5 million is probably already spent. And even if it wasn’t there’s no legal way it could be used to be churned into the economy.
But tomorrow we will wake up, open our back doors, and see rainbows, unicorns, and all the bushes will be made of cottan candy! Cause it’s all about change, change that we can believe in. YES WE CAN!
In all seriousness, Obama is a politician. All politicians are the same. They don’t care about the people and they don’t care about the country. They only care about securing their own power base. That’s it. Why do you think politician’s only cater to the poor when they are running for office? It’s because the quote poor unquote are most likely the most uneducated, and the least liekly to actually think about an issue instead of just falling into the trap of class envy. But election after election we line up at the voting boths and pull the lever like rats at a food bar. Every election we think “but this guy is different, this guy will change things”. What has changed AT ALL know matter WHO IS IN OFFICE! It’s always going to be the same shit over and over because the politicians see the majority of Americans for what they are..usefull idiot’s. Obama included. Absolutly nothing will improve in this county on the empty pledges of politicians. It’s time for all people to stop getting so god damn caught up in the cult of personality of politics.
Rant concluded.
Peace, Pancakes and Pie for all!
XOXO
Casey in OKC
Well. Tomorrow is the big day. Judging from this, and other things, be prepared for at least 4 years of FAIL.
Black Tuesday starts it all.
Just adding to the pile of gold with Obama’s name on it. I thought buying a plate, coins, reprinted ticket, and a t-shirt was bad. I guess when people are making a HUGE deal out of this, might as well cash in.
Have fun tomorrow, stay warm!
Meh the inauguration is free. Its all the extras like the ball and concert. Whatever
Is it just me, or does that photo of Obama look *really* touched up?
Ha, it Figures. Everyone is a crook. I’m sure this is just the beginning.
Cut em some slack. Even millionaires need to pad their retirement. $5 mill could buy like 2 or 3 chicken nuggets or something…
Come to Texas we be rich up in here yo!!
Hey Olivia, you should visit the Boy Scout Statue here:
as part of your tour of D.C. Lets just say its very, very creepy. If your standing in front of the Washington monument and looking at the White house, it’s across the street and to the right.
Things of this nature shouldn’t be for sale. That’s just wrong.
I knew this would happen when the Reps won- obama would never stand for this! oh wait…
That’s retarded, but I say let them make asses out of themselves.
So long as the actual inauguration is aired for all to see, it’s no big deal.
I mean, yea it’s really fucking dumb to sell broadcast rights to a concert and the balls, but so be it. They have their reasons.
Don’t like it? Well, I’m down for crashing some parties.
without you Olivia, I’d never
have the time to look this stuff
up. god bless you and your awsome info giving skillz.
This is America, the home of making a quick buck. ‘nough said
HEYYYYYYYYYYYYY….”YES WE CAN”………….K
@mr frost
i noticed the same thing!on bumpersticker the most.all image,no action yet
cha ching! who says there is a resesion
Yeah #47,
Also, what’s concerning me is all the imagery of him - posterized (like che guavara) on CNN etc.
It’s like the media is comparing him to Che Guavara, Malcom X and Mandela except they earned it over time - he hasn’t done ONE thing yet.
Uhhh, everyone has to make money!
This is not a historic moment for me. Can’t we fucking wait until he’s fucking President to see if his ass actually brings any change. All he is, as previous presidents have been, nothing but talk. Sometimes when he’s talking he doesn’t even seem that confident in what he plans. I wouldn’t be shocked if he pissed himself at the inaugural.
Nice!
oh,lets just kiss and make up?
Hmmm, anyone remember the media coverage for the Bush Inauguration? 50 million–a big questionable cost. Obama with 150 million–Historic. Welcome to State-suck-up Media. So healthy for a Republic.
I’m sure that none of those donations will buy ANY access in the new administration. Change…sure. After all–its “historic” so its all ok.
I’m not upset with Obama…it’s his party, and he can do whatever the heck he wants (not with our tax money), but this slavish worship by the media is a disgrace–and genuine danger to the Nation–if it continues.
we followed bush long enough to know, that now, after 8yrs. that he,
coulda.woulda.shoulda!
Everyone relax. Take a deep breathe… in… and… exhale.
Mr. Obama’s friends and supporters want to throw a party for him. Let them. It’s okay, AND it’s okay if they pay for some of it. With an estimated cost of $150 million, let Mr. Obama’s fundraisers take in as much as they possibly can. Because even with the $35 million, we, as taxpayers, will still be out a hefty sum.
We throw these parties every four years. All of this… even this discussion… is nothing new.
Every time the inauguration rolls around, the elite reach into their pockets in a further effort to curry favor with the new president. By the way, if you think there’s a difference between Steve Ballmer’s $50,000 and $50k from Microsoft, you’re kidding yourself. Nearly, 400 people gave the maximum $50k donation. That’s $20 million of the $35 million mentioned above. It’s business as usual, and in this instance, that’s okay. Again, if they want to pay for it, let them.
If you follow politics long enough, you’ll realize that real change, the substantive kind, happens slowly. So, relax, it’s not even Day One.
well respected japanese business men own Chicago,
wait, its like 39% of america they own(including Chicago maybe obama too),
yeah,our great usa ‘fore’ fathers…
isnt great in our eyes,
sell
sell
sell!
Welcome to the “Age of Obama” were selling anything is the Chicago way.
I know this is way off topic, but I found a website that Olivia would probably find pretty interesting. It is called The Impossible Project. They want to restart production of analog integral film for vintage Polaroid cameras in 2010. They obtained Polaroid’s old equipment and factory. Here is their website: http://www.the-impossible-project.com/beta/
DAMN!!only rich black folks can watch!lolj/k
‘the people are only as strong as their leaders’
if leaders=shit,then people=shit!
YES!!and its showing now!
I agree with Shane. There was no need for Obama to have a $150 million inauguration party. This is an important event and not just the superbowl like Shane said.
That disappoints me a little.
I don’t have a prob with the new president. We need our hope in America restored.
I just have a prob with them acting like it’s the freaking superbowl or something rather than a very important historical event.
“The inaugural committee has raised about $35 million in contributions, having imposed restrictions that banned direct donations from corporations, political action committees, foreigners and registered lobbyists. Individuals were also limited to $50,000.”
Notice how the new administration refuses to cow to corporations, lobbyists and foreign entities? People complain about it being the same old, same old- when in fact, when you take the time to LOOK into it (a novel, rarely performed concept for most people) they are already implementing change- change from taking money from the same corrupt sources as has been routine.
Please…
First the Warpublicans bitch when you don’t bow down to the all-might free-market “perfection” of Capitalism, and then they whine when someone tries to act within the true nature of capitalism.
Such hypocrisy on their part.
The money is necessary, if you didn’t notice, to help pay for things, considering that the former Warpublican administration nearly bankrupted us, and brought is into the worst recession since the Great Depression.
It’s a wise decision… and now I know Americans aren’t used to wisdom being used in our activities, but my lord, it seems like it would sink into some of their thick skulls at some point.
The inauguration will shatter records for viewers, because people know how vitally important Obama is to our continued existence after what we just narrowly survived under.
“Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
O.k. So I might be seeem alittle trollish being the only one to comment more than once today, but I just have to mention..
AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!!
Woop!!! Hay!!!! What was that?!
Oh boy. I’ll be looking to spot you in the crowd tonite Olivia ~_~. Be safe.
It would be nice if it went towards paying for the inauguration. That cost Millions. So 5mil from that and all the tourist revenue combined might ease the debt on the taxpayers.
It’s halftime - I happened to switch to HBO to observe the celebration of MLK (don’t know? better ask somebody), and not only Beyonce, but Bruce Springfield, and U2 were performing tributes to the Legend.
Awesome speech by the President to slowly engage the public into what is going to be a rebuilding process of trust, and Hope. I’m sure that if faced with many opinions in opposition of his policies, Obama will not falter in this weekends festivities and message.
Change is coming, get used to the nappy heads bitches.
Well, Obama DID say that he was for “change”. Since he never really defined that, we thought he meant a change in the way things were done.
Turns out, he actually meant pocket change…and lots of it!
Well, the Republicans are historically known for being more money minded. Oh wait, nevermind (I keep forgetting Obama is a Democrat when I see this kind of stuff).
As long as the money is used to help the economy, I see nothing wrong with what’s happening.
Glad you starting to see through the fog of “hope” and realize that Obama is just another scummy opportunistic Democrat.
It’s a lot like his buddy Blagojevich trying to see Obama’s old senate seat. BTW the Democrats confirmed his pick too!
Seems shady. C’mon, Obama, don’t have an epic fail as your first presidential act!
Actually, I think the money is to pay Casey Affleck for the documentary he’s filming about this
i agree. this shouldn’t be for sale.
